Multifoil Underfloor Insulation
When choosing a type of floor insulation, factors such as the climate, the intended use of the space, installation method, and budget should be considered. It’s also important to follow local building codes and regulations when selecting and installing insulation materials. Within our range of insulation products, we have the EcoTec Floor-Foam Insulation Kit which is made to boost the insulation beneath carpet underlay, wood, laminate, and vinyl floors to stop the ground from getting cold. If you’re going through Building Regulations and need to meet a specific U-value YBS SuperQuilt is the product for you.
EcoTec Floor-Foam
EcoTec Floor-foam is the answer if you don’t have access to the underside of your floor or don’t want to remove floorboards. This insulation helps stop condensation and draughts while reducing noise by preventing cold air from entering rooms through concrete and wooden floors. The 4mm high-density polyester foam used to make Floorfoam has a highly reflective true aluminum foil on both sides.
Floor foam can be utilised in rooms where rising cold air destroys house energy efficiency as well as on lower and upper levels, above unheated areas like garages. The easiest way to install Floor Foam insulation is to lay it directly on the wood or concrete floor. With our 75mm Thermaseal True Aluminium Foil Joining Tape, make sure the edges are joined and seal the perimeter. After that, you can install your laminate flooring, wood, underlay, and carpets as directed by the manufacturer.
To give vinyl flooring a firm surface to sit on when installed, we advise placing a thin piece of plywood above the floor foam.
YBS SuperQuilt
SuperQuilt floor insulation is fully certified for Building Control by BDA and BBA. It’s often used to insulate above concrete floors and it’s also used to insulate within timber floors. SuperQuilt is suitable for any project going through building control whether that’s a new build, extension, or retrofit project.
YBS SuperQuilt is the highest-performing EN-certified multifoil insulation on the market. When fully taped and sealed it also acts as a vapour control barrier preventing the build-up of dampness and condensation which also reduces the risk of mold.
It has been designed to work with both suspended timber floors and concrete floors. For suspended timber floors it’s designed to be recessed into the floor joists by 50mm and staples into place or you can use Saddle Clips which hold the insulation into place and recessed to 50mm. For Concrete floors, SuperQuilt is installed directly on top of the concrete, and timber battens are installed on top of the SuperQuilt.
