YBS BreatherQuilt is a 2-in-1 breathable membrane and multifoil insulation that will benefit any construction or reroofing project. You will save on cost, installation time, and space by using BreatherQuilt. We have also created a fully insulating reroofing solution that will allow you to obtain a U-Value of 0.18 which is the current building control criteria. This is called the Triple Layer Technique which combines YBS SuperQuilt with YBS BreatherQuilt. BreatherQuilt is installed above the rafters and SuperQuilt is applied in a double layer below the rafters.

BreatherQuilt is made from 11 layers of perforated highly reflective aluminium foil, wadding, and an outer fully waterproof breathable membrane. These all work by allowing moisture to pass from the inside to the outside but not allowing any water to penetrate from the outside. Also due to its layers of wadding and aluminium foil, it has great thermal properties. BreatherQuilt has double-sided tape pre-attached to the roll to ensure installation goes as smoothly as possible.

When installing BreatherQuilt you apply it horizontally across the rafters before the tile battens, it’s supplied in rolls that are 1.2m by 10m. It should be hung loosely before the tile battens are fitted. However, if you’re wanting to install the BreatherQuilt taught a counter batten should be installed before the tile batten.

To comply with building rules, BreatherQuilt is used with SuperQuilt and other insulation materials, as detailed in our Technical Datasheet.

Fixing Instructions for BreatherQuilt:

BreatherQuilt should be installed for pitched roof applications in line with the manufacturer’s certificate, fixing instructions, and current standard building practice, as well as any other applicable regulations:

• Start at the bottom of the roof by rolling BreatherQuilt across the rafters and staple it to the place
• additional rolls should be butt-jointed and sealed using waterproof tape
• Tape a line of double-sided tape along the top edge of the material
• Install the next layer of BreatherQuilt overlapping the material by 75mm
• staple as before and then secure with the double-sided tape
• additional rolls should be butt-jointed and sealed using waterproof tape
• BreatherQuilt can be cut with a craft knife or a sharp pair of scissors.
• Staple at regular intervals using a minimum of 14mm stainless steel or galvanized staples are recommended
• No protective clothing/handling required
